Hi everyone,

We had a small group and if you tried to attend but turned around due to the construction on Coronado Road, thanks for trying.  We were not aware of the construction and it was a challenge to navigate thru it.

As a reminder if you know of someone not receiving my emails, please have them email me.  Names have dropped off and I have no idea why.  Goggle has updated their email several times in the past few months and it has been a challenge.  I only remove names when the person has requested me to do so.

Someone left a June 8, 2001 Senior Prom insulated cup and I have saved it for you.  Please let me know who the cups belongs to and I will put your name on it.  We will be there for our monthly Sew and Yarn day on Thursday, March 28 9:3-1:30 if you would like to pick it up.

Family Promise has made the decision to accept only new items (including clothes) so we will only be accepting paper and hygiene items for them.  The items they need are noted below:

  • Paper towels
  • Tissues
  • Toilet paper
  • Feminine product
  • Unopened shampoos, body washes and deodorants-they especially like to receive the small bottles from hotels

We added Pat Coultrap to our wall of honor.  Pat was given the task in the early 90’s to utilize the fabric that was donated to BTSCD and continue to accept and refurbish the used clothing that was donated.  Working out of her home, this group was renamed Stitches of Love.  When you are at the center, please take the time to read the lovely newsletter from her that we posted next to her picture.  Another bit of information about Pat is that she is the Mom to Mary Jo Kruse and Connie Chelgren who started the sewing group at the Beatitudes with Jo Doyle.  Connie adapted the dress pattern that we know as the “Connie” dress.  Mary Jo also has her knit dress which has been very popular.  We now have many different styles of knit dresses.

We received notice that we lost a seamstress of many years ago, Lois Bettis. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

We had quite a few small, plain canvas bags that were donated a few months ago and of course we saw a need to ‘accessorize’ them.  Cindy issued a “Dollar Store to Delightful” challenge to everyone with the request to turn them in at our April meeting and she will have raffle drawing prize. This is the only month to be eligible for the raffle drawing. We will not be judging them, but you will receive a raffle ticket for the purses you turn in.  I know I have said in the past that all appliques and buttons need to be sewn on, but this is an exception as the purses will not be washed as many times as clothing.

Several stayed for Gloria’s lacey hair accessories.  It was actually easier than I thought!  We still have plenty of lace if you wanted to make some.

Volunteers are still needed for the 35th Ave Sew and Vac pillowcase event on Saturday, April 20.  I realize this is the day before Easter, but this is the day of their black bag event which means the store will be very busy.  This  even will provide us with 100 pillowcases with a savings of at least $500, plus we have recruited numerous volunteers in the past to join us.  So far I have 2 volunteers and I need at least 20 more.  If you volunteer all day (9:00-3:00) lunch will be provided (Subway).  Other shifts are 9:00-12:00 and 12:00-3:00.  If you need a different shift, just let me know.   I need volunteers to prep the pillowcases, help their customers sew them on the store’s sergers, quality control (ironing and making sure all the seams are good) and talking with customers about us.  35th Ave provides the fabric for this event and we will help them cut the fabric at our Sew Day at 35th Ave on Sunday, March 24.  35th has cutting mats and limited number of rulers but you will need to bring your rotary cutter.
